Soap Party Favors

When I was looking for wedding favors, I kept finding myself eyeing all of the pretty photos of soap favors on Pinterest. Soap didn't really seem to fit for our shindig, but it stuck with me, and I'd been anxiously awaiting an excuse to use it for something.

Let's clear one thing up right now: I didn't actually make this soap. I bought two of my favorite kinds of bar soap (an oatmeal honey and a lavender) and melted them down. For this project, I used 20 bars of soap total.

Cut the bars into 1" squares and put them in a sturdy saucepan or pot. Turn your heat on low and stir frequently.

I added water, a tablespoon at a time, in order to help the bars melt better.

I got a bit impatient with the process, so I took the soap off when it was still a bit...chunky. Then, I stirred in some soap colorant and poured it all into a loaf pan lined with wax paper.

Let it set up overnight. Remove from the loaf pan and cut into new bars.

Cut them as square as you like - I liked the rough edge at the top of the bars. I also like the marble look that happened as a result of my impatience. (Sometimes you get lucky!)

We wrapped our favors in burlap ribbon with some raffia and a tag that read "From Heather's Shower to Yours!"

They made a cute and simple addition to the shower decor, and they were easy for guests to grab on their way out the door. I love the idea of giving out favors that people will actually be able to use.
